ELO: Dublin gig cancelled at the last-minute due to illness
Illness has prompted rock group Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) to postpone their performance in Dublin.
On Friday night, they were scheduled to perform at Dublin’s 3Arena.
According to music promoters MCD, lead singer Jeff Lynne of the band was advised not to perform.
“We are extremely sorry to announce that Jeff Lynne has had to postpone his performance this evening after doctor’s advice,” the statement read in a statement that was made public on Friday afternoon.
“Jeff wants to utilize this chance to truly apologize to all of his fans for any annoyance and disappointment that may have occurred.”
Due to a change in schedule, the performance will now happen on May 7 at the same location.
On social media, a lot of supporters have vented their annoyance at not knowing about the cancellation sooner.
On Friday morning, Thomas Sweeney’s son and wife drove from Londonderry to Dublin.
When the announcement of the cancellation came through via text, the two were still twenty minutes outside of the city.
“It was unbelievable to them,” Mr. Sweeney remarked. “I contacted the hotel to inquire about cancellation, and they kindly informed me that they have a 24-hour cancellation policy, which makes sense.
That is £200 on lodging, £50 on gas, and no show for us, though.
“They can not afford to go back down the road and spend the same two weekends in a row, but they will make the most of it.”
Mr. Sweeney proposed that music promoters include insurance in the ticket price to cover the extra expenses associated with traveling to a performance, especially in light of the recent cancellations of One Direction and Little Mix shows in Belfast.
“In the event of a cancellation, the majority of individuals would be content to pay a few additional pounds to ensure they do not lose hundreds of dollars. I feel like there are an increasing number of these performances that are being canceled with such little notice.
“Fans should be compensated in some form,”
According to MCD, tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled show, and customers who can not make the new date should get in touch with their original point of purchase to request a refund.
