The talk of Friday’s 100-81 Indiana Fever win over the Chicago Sky will be Caitlin Clark’s performance, and rightfully so.
But, Angel Reese’s historic performance is another plot point that can be overlooked in the shuffle. The 22-year-old forward broke two of Tina Charles’ records with her 23rd double-double of the year and her record for most rebounds in a rookie season, which had stood for 14 seasons.
Many took notice of Reese’s accomplishment, but perhaps none more prominent than that of Chicago native and Sky minority owner Dwyane Wade.
“History in the making,” Wade said in a quote tweet of Bleacher Report’s post acknowledging Reese’s milestone.
Reese finished with two steals, a block, 11 rebounds, and 10 points. This season, she has tallied a double-double in 74.2% of the Sky’s games. Chicago’s record plummeted to 11–20, and they are now only one half-game ahead of the Atlanta Dream for the last Eastern Conference playoff place. Wade came under fire for praising Reese’s achievement while failing to give Clark a round of applause for her career-high 30 points and 12 assists, which she recorded in the WNBA’s inaugural game.
