Done Deal:five-star DB Zaquan Patterson Announce his commitment to miami Hurricanes for a new season!!
Ultimately, removing Zaquan Patterson from The U would be difficult. The Miami Hurricanes commitment was made public by the Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna standout secondary prospect at halftime of the Lions’ Saturday game against Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy.
“You know you want to see Miami be great because you are from Miami,” Patterson remarked. “Coach Mario Cristobal’s efforts with the program are fantastic. I adore the path he is taking. “I wish to contribute to that transformation.”
The five-star joins two-way superstar Joshisa Trader as the second Lions senior and the second player with the high rating to be selected by the program. With the choice now public, the pair leads a formidable class of 2024 Hurricanes and is currently ranked No. 11 in the Rivals team rankings, surpassing Alabama.
Despite not making any official trips, Patterson has had an active recruiting process, ultimately choosing Miami over Florida State, Auburn, Michigan, and Ohio State. Despite some staff changes, the local program persisted, and this weekend it paid off.
Patterson remarked, “Miami wants you when they want you.” That is the one thing I understood. Miami will give you their best effort if they desire you. They will not stop until you make a commitment. Then, they most likely will not stop. Until the first day of school, most likely. “They do not give up.”
Although he acknowledges relief that the vow is now public, Patterson, who works in all three phases for the Lions program, has plans to maybe take visits beyond the commitment.
Regardless of position projection, Patterson is among the best football players in the class of 2024. He has worked and made an impact in all three phases of football while rising to the position of captain at one of the top prep programs in the country. Given his size, physicality, intelligence, and football acumen versus the pass and the run, it goes without saying that his college calling card will be a secondary duty with hybrid responsibility.
The five-star’s experience across the back-seven, from spot duties as a cornerback on the island to inside-the-box enforcer skills against downhill attacks, allows him to impact the game regardless of down and distance. As a free player, Patterson excels in the space between the lines, but he can also move close to the trenches and show off as a pass rusher or blitzer when necessary. At six feet one inch and around 200 pounds, he just fumbles around the field.
