Done Deal:2025 4-star DL Jarquez Carter commits to Ohio State football. What we know:

The Ohio State recruiting class for 2025 is still growing. Jarquez Carter, a four-star defensive lineman for Florida, chose OSU over schools like Miami, Central Florida, and Penn State when he made his pledge official on Thursday.

Along with London Merritt, Trajen Odom, Zion Grady, Maxwell Roy, and Zahir Mathis, Carter is one of six defensive lineman in the 2025 class that position coach Larry Johnson has recruited.

According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Carter, a native of Newberry, Florida, is ranked No. 395 among the 2025 class’s players. He is ranked as the 42nd best defensive lineman in the nation.

According to MaxPreps, Carter recorded 37 tackles-for-loss and 67 tackles for Newberry High School in 2023. In addition, he recorded fifteen hurries and nine sacks. On November 19, Carter announced an offer from Ohio State. Later, on June 19–21, he made an official visit to the Buckeyes.

Carter joins Merritt and linebacker Tarvos Alford as Ohio State’s third Florida recruit in the 2025 class.

Johnson is assembling a formidable class of recruits for the defensive line in 2025. Merritt will probably see action inside depending on what Ohio State needs, while Carter, a 6-foot-2, 284-pound defensive lineman, joins Odom and Roy as interior options for the Buckeyes’ defensive line.

All four of Ohio State’s defensive line starters—J.T. Tuimoloau, Tyleik Williams, Ty Hamilton, and Jack Sawyer—will be leaving after the 2024 year. Hero Kanu, Mitchell Melton, Kenyatta Jackson Jr., and Caden Curry are the other four players who will be eligible for the NFL draft. The defensive line, which is led by 2024 five-star Eddrick Houston, is a position with little experience outside of the four starters.

As has been commonplace for Johnson defensive lines, Ohio State may employ a variety of up front combinations going into 2025. Carter is a member of an emerging youth movement that aims to follow middle-field players like Williams and Hamilton.
