In order to keep Jamal Murray at the Mile High, the Denver Nuggets and the player have reached an agreement on a four-year, $208 million maximum contract extension. It has been claimed by Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks of ESPN that Murray will get a guaranteed $244 million over the next five years. The 27-year-old guard’s salary will rise to $57.5 million in 2028–29, the last year of his recently inked contract, from $46.4 million in 2025–26.
In 2016, the Denver Nuggets selected Jamal Murray with the seventh overall pick. In the most recent seasons, he has established himself as a key member of the squad, and in 2022–2023 he contributed to the team’s first NBA championship.
Gilbert Arenas on why extending Jamal Murray is the right move for the Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets had a poor offseason prior to re-signing Jamal Murray. Russell Westbrook and Dario Saric replaced Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson, who were both lost to free agency. Murray’s new contract is a steal, in Gilbert Arenas’ opinion, as the Denver Nuggets won’t have to worry about losing one of the best closers in the league. “You know that during his career, he didn’t play in any All-Star games? Did he not make the All-NBA team? That is absurd. A guy that has so much and he does so much for the team and he doesn’t get the praises and trophies. So, considering what they get, this is affordable? There is no doubt about your closeness. “He makes big shots,” said Arenas.
It would have been easy for him to sign a $305 million or $325 million deal. Nobody was going to tell him that was too much. For twenty-eight million dollars? You guys took one,” he continued.
