Congratulations to Alexander Zverev, the tennis player, on his induction into the Hall of Fame.
Following surgery to repair three torn lateral ligaments in his right ankle—an injury he sustained during last week’s French Open quarterfinal match against Rafael Nadal—Alexander Zverev provided fans with an update on Tuesday.
Though he is now unable to compete, the German tennis star shared on Instagram a significant achievement he hopes to achieve next week.
Everybody has a unique life journey, according to Zverev. This is my portion of it. I will hit my all-time high of number two in the world next week, but I had to get surgery this morning.
Zverev did not specify when he intends to return to the tennis court, but it appears that his recuperation process will go more quickly than usual.
“Surgery was the best option to guarantee all the ligaments heal properly, to regain full stability in my ankle, and to return to competition as soon as possible,” Zverev wrote. “I am going to give it everything I have got to get better and return stronger than ever!”
The 25-year-old had to retire from his encounter against Rafael Nadal last Friday in the second set due to an injury. Ultimately, on Sunday, the Spaniard won his 14th French Open championship, bringing his career total of major victories to 22.
Zverev most likely will not be ready to compete in Wimbledon, which starts on June 27, barring a miracle recovery. However, the nearly second-ranked player in the world will continue to have his ranking as the ATP has disallowed ranking points from being awarded at Wimbledon this year because it has banned players from Belarus and Russia.
