If Ohio State had received a signed National Letter of Intent, it would have introduced Smith as a member of their 2024 recruiting class, which is extremely unusual. After making his announcement, Smith, who had previously committed to the Buckeyes in December of last year, told reporters that he had Miami and Ohio State caps in his luggage and had chosen the Buckeyes two minutes prior.
