Sheldon Keefe, who was sacked by the Toronto Maple Leafs less than two weeks ago, was hired by the New Jersey Devils and tasked with making a youthful squad with a star forward a Stanley Cup contender. Keefe will be introduced at a press conference on Tuesday of next week, according to Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald, who made the announcement Thursday.
“I am honored to be a part of the Devils organization, and this is an exciting time,” Keefe said in a statement issued by the NHL team. “I find it very appealing to have the opportunity to head this youthful, vibrant team and to witness the potential that remains unrealized.
