Brian May, the guitarist for Queen, gets knighted by King…
Today, March 14, 2023, in Buckingham Palace, King Charles III knighted Queen Legend Brian May. Below are all of the pictures from the historic day, along with Brian’s heartfelt Instagram post honoring the occasion.
It was revealed on December 31st, 2023, that Brian will be made a Sir in the King’s New Year’s Honors List.
At the investiture ceremony held at Buckingham Palace today, the guitar star was knighted ‘for services to music and humanitarian work.’ His new title is Sir Brian Harold May.
Following the event, Sir Brian and his spouse Anita Dobson stood for pictures outside Buckingham Palace.
In 2005, Brian May received an honorary title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
Brian May expressed his gratitude and happiness at being awarded a knighthood. “I shall see the knighthood more as a charge—a commission—to carry on fighting for justice and to be a voice for those who are voiceless than as a reward. I will do my best to merit it and become that shining armored knight.
In addition to revolutionizing music with Queen, Sir Brian May was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2007.
In addition, Sir Brian is a dedicated advocate for animal rights; earlier this year, he declared that he would never perform at Glastonbury Festival because of Michael Eavis’ position on the badger cull.
