Brian May, the guitarist for Queen, remembered something awful said by his late bandmate Freddie Mercury just before the singer’s untimely death in a recent interview with Planet Rock.
Some of those Queen fans may be aware that Freddie Mercury passed away from AIDS in 1991. At 45 years old, he was considered one of the best rock & roll vocalists ever. Freddie was adored by many rockers during his live appearances.
Nonetheless, in discussing his 1992 debut solo album, Back to the Light, Brian May alluded to the remarks made by his departed bandmate. When Brian showed Freddie his solo album, May claims that Freddie realized he would not be around for much longer.
“I offered Freddie ‘Driven By You,’ since I had it at the time, and he seemed to dig it,” Brian remarked. “Do you want to sing this?,” I said.
And he remarked, ‘Brian, you are singing really well. Furthermore, I get where you are coming from; you must be embarrassed by this since I will not be there for very long. Your solo career needs to be organized, and here’s an excellent place to start.
Brian added a few more words to his recollection and stated that they were really grieved by Freddie’s passing. He added that even though they believed that rejecting Queen was the only option, she was their entire existence.
