Breaking:Tennessee DB Christian Harrison, son of NFL great Rodney Harrison, enters transfer portal
Christian Harrison, a defensive back for Tennessee and the son of legendary NFL player Rodney Harrison, has logged on to the transfer site. On Sunday, Harrison made his choice public on X, the former name for Twitter. On Saturday night, he played 25 snaps and recorded two tackles in the Vols’ 42-17 loss to Ohio State in the first round of the College Football Playoffs.
His father, Rodney Harrison, was one of the best safeties of the last 30 years, a two-time All-Pro, a two-time Super Bowl champion, and a member of the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. The younger Harrison was a player for North Carolina’s new coach, Bill Belichick.
Harrison’s entry into the transfer portal in December makes him the tenth scholarship player. The portal is accessible until December 28. Harrison is an Atlanta native who is 6′ 1″ and 191 pounds. During his three seasons at Tennessee, he participated in 26 games and made four starts. He still has two seasons of eligibility left after taking a redshirt in 2023.
During his time at UT, Harrison recorded 33 tackles, including three for loss. Early in the 2024 season, he began at nickelback when planned starter Jourdan Thomas sustained a season-ending injury during preseason drills. Boo Carter, an SEC All-Freshman, overtook Harrison in the rotation by the middle of this season.
Harrison was a three-star recruit in the class of 2022 at UT. He ultimately decided to attend the Vols over Kansas State, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Utah, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and other schools after first committing to Liberty.
