Breaking:Michigan’s offensive line success very appealing to newly offered 2025 tackle Mal Waldrep
Over the years, Michigan has taken great pleasure in their offensive line play in particular.
In addition to winning the national championship the year they did not win the Joe Moore trophy, the Wolverines had won two of the previous three.Sherrone Moore was the driving force behind the formation of that unit, but he recently appointed Grant Newsome, another up-and-coming coaching talent, as the next offensive line coach at Ann Arbor.
After serving in a variety of capacities over the years, the former Wolverine offensive lineman has gone back to his origins and begun to target several of the top linemen in the country.
Mal Waldrep, an offensive tackle for Phenix City (Ala.) Central 2025, received an offer from him on Tuesday.Waldrep told The Michigan Insider, “Coach Newsome called me and inquired about my family and how I was doing, and then informed me that I had an offer from them.”“I am simply appreciative with my current situation. It means a lot, and I am simply appreciative of the opportunity.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound player is eager to get to know offensive line coach Grant Newsome, who impressed him right away.“I believe he is a very modest, grounded individual and he appears to be quite knowledgeable about coaching,” Waldrep remarked.“Being a younger coach, I feel like I can relate to him.”
Numerous prestigious schools, including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Tennessee, have already extended offers to Waldrep. He is still learning more about Michigan with his new suitor, but he is aware of their accomplishments and output thus far.
Waldrep remarked, “All I really know is that they produced some bada*s offensive lineman and won the national championship this year.”They definitely go for it up front and play dominant. That, in my opinion, is a major factor in their ability to end the year as they did.
The standout from Yellowhammer State is looking forward to visiting Ann Arbor and learning more about the Wolverines.
