The Michigan football program has been in the news lately for a variety of reasons, but that has not stopped it from making inroads in the recruiting process.On Tuesday morning, Fort Myers’ Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback in the Class of 2025 (Bishop Verot High School), announced his commitment to the Wolverines.Smith received more than 20 Division I offers and is ranked No. 14 among quarterbacks in his class and No. 213 overall by 247Sports composite rankings.He passed on Florida State, Florida, Miami, Penn State, and Texas A&M in favor of U-M.
Smith is 180 pounds and 6 feet 3 inches tall.In his third season as a starting quarterback, the dual-threat quarterback has passed for 6,495 yards, 69 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He has also gained almost 1,900 rushing yards and 41 more scores.
Smith told 247sports, “It was sold by the coaching staff and the individuals in the football building.”“The game’s atmosphere and academics were unquestionably a huge plus!
According to sources, he completed 114 of 184 passes (22.0%) for 1,840 yards, 25 touchdowns, and one interception this season. He also added 76 rushes for 605 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Before turning his attention to the football field more recently, Smith was a baseball star.Smith was actually ranked as the #1 shortstop in the country at the age of 14 by the high school baseball recruiting website “Perfect Game.”
Smith joins fellow Florida native Chris Ewald (Chaminade-Madonna Prep), a four-star defensive back, and Bobby Kanka (Howell), a four-star linebacker, as the third commit in the Class of 2025.
