Although Benedict Cumberbatch has a devoted following, his wife Sophie Hunter is the only lady who has won his heart.
The director and playwright, who starred with the Power of the Dog actor in 2009’s Burlesque Fairytales, apparently met him first. In 2015, they were married in a surprise wedding.
Together, they have since welcomed three children. Hal Auden was born in 2017 after their first child, Christopher “Kit” Carlton, was born in 2015. Although Cumberbatch and Hunter never officially announced the birth, their third child arrived sometime in 2019.
By avoiding social media and keeping their kids out of the public glare, the couple has mainly kept their romance and lives together out of the spotlight over the years
When the low-key duo attended the French Open in June 2014, they were spotted together while watching the Men’s Final on Day 15. It was one of their first public outings. Hunter wore a floral shirt for the event, and Cumberbatch sported a fedora.
The pair was photographed together once more a few months later on October 18, 2014, as they left a dinner at Quaglino’s restaurant in London.
In November 2014, the couple astonished fans by announcing their engagement. Although the public history of their relationship was short, the announcement method—an outdated newspaper article in The Times’s marriages, births, and deaths column—was more unexpected.
