2025 NFL free agency: Daniel Jones, Colts finalizing deal as Giants’ former first-round QB heads to Indy
In the NFL, Daniel Jones has found a new home and is earning a respectable sum of money. According to Jonathan Jones, an NFL insider for CBS Sports, the veteran quarterback is completing a contract to join the Indianapolis Colts. According to ESPN, Jones will receive a $14 million, one-year contract to move to Indianapolis.
Jones was reportedly torn between staying with the Minnesota Vikings, with whom he joined in the midst of the previous season, and joining the Colts, one of the more prominent suitors. Now that the deal is official, Jones will join a Colts squad that will see him face incumbent starter Anthony Richardson.
Jones joined the Vikings practice squad after that and eventually made it to the active roster. Jones, however, only added depth to the position group behind Sam Darnold and never saw action for Minnesota. There did seem to be a window for Jones to stay in Minnesota as a backup quarterback or as a stopgap starter until J.J. McCarthy, the team’s 2024 first-round pick, was ready to take over, given that Darnold signed a free agency contract with the Seahawks.
