Breaking: Otega Oweh’s 28 points, game-winner lead Kentucky past Oklahoma 83-82 in thrilling finish
When Otega Oweh returned to Norman, he would not be denied the opportunity to play against his old squad. In an instant classic, the former Sooner gave his team all they needed to help No. 17 Kentucky (19-9; 8-7 SEC) defeat Oklahoma (17-11; 4-11 SEC) 83-82. Oweh finished with a career-high 28 points and six rebounds, including the game-winning basket with 6.1 seconds remaining, after scoring a season-low two points the previous time out.
With one last defensive stop on the final drive, he also dealt Oklahoma’s chances the fatal blow.
Lamont Butler and Jaxson Robinson were back in the starting lineup for Kentucky in this game, but they were unable to establish a rhythm due to foul trouble and a worsening of Robinson’s wrist ailment. Others, like Brandon Garrison, who contributed 12 points, four rebounds, three blocks, and three steals, however, stood up and made significant contributions. UK shot 7-23 (30.4 percent from long range) and 50 percent from the field.
Early in, both sides got off to a poor start. It took Kentucky over three minutes to make its first basket. However, the Wildcats would maintain their lead for the majority of the first half after grabbing a 5–4 lead. Soon after, the UK went on an 8-0 run to increase the lead to nine points.
However, foul issues soon became a problem. In the first half, Amari Williams (who seemed to hurt his ankle but did not sit out for long), Robinson, Andrew Carr, and Butler were all given two fouls.
