Breaking News:Tennessee Vols basketball guard Talaysia Cooper has won the sporting news national player of the year….
Talaysia Cooper, a former guard for South Carolina, has formally signed with the Tennessee women’s basketball team and will join the team following the current season, the team announced.
Cooper put pen to paper on Wednesday after first announcing her commitment on August 1 via Instagram and X (previously known as Twitter).
However, for the 2023–24 season, the 6-foot point guard will not play any games. She can enroll at Tennessee this fall but will not be able to compete because she is transferring outside of the NCAA gateway timeframe.
Coach Kellie Harper is thrilled about the new addition, even if it has taken longer than expected.
“We are overjoyed to have Talaysia join the Lady Vols. We extensively recruited her during her high school years, so we are well aware of the caliber of the talent and person we are getting. We are excited for Talaysia to integrate with our existing group, pick up the system, put in a lot of effort, and get ready to contribute actively as a redshirt sophomore in 2024–2025,” Harper
Cooper was a great prospect at her position and a five-star recruit in high school. During her time at East Clarendon High School, she scored over 3,000 points and won the 2021 South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year award.
