North Carolina’s standout guard RJ Davis has officially been named the winner of the prestigious 2025 Jerry West Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the best shooting guard in men’s college basketball.
Davis, a senior leader and fan favorite at UNC, delivered a spectacular season that solidified his place among the nation’s elite. Averaging 21.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, Davis was the driving force behind the Tar Heels’ deep NCAA Tournament run and a key figure in their offensive success throughout the season.
> “Winning this award is truly an honor,” Davis said in a statement released by the university. “Jerry West is a legend of the game, and to be recognized in his name means everything to me. I’m grateful to my coaches, teammates, and the Carolina family for believing in me.”
The award, named after Hall of Famer and NBA icon Jerry West, honors not only scoring ability but leadership, consistency, and all-around impact on the game — qualities Davis displayed night in and night out.
UNC Head Coach Hubert Davis praised RJ’s growth and maturity:
> “RJ Davis is everything you want in a Carolina player — tough, smart, unselfish, and relentless. He earned this, and we’re incredibly proud of him.”
This marks the first time a UNC player has won the Jerry West Award since its inception in 2015, adding another milestone to RJ Davis’s decorated collegiate career. Davis also earned All-ACC First Team honors and was a finalist for the Wooden and Naismith Player of the Year awards.
Social media erupted in celebration following the announcement, with current and former Tar Heels, NBA stars, and fans across the nation applauding Davis’s accomplishment.
As RJ Davis prepares for the next chapter — with NBA Draft speculation swirling — he leaves behind a legacy defined by heart, hustle, and excellence.
> “Chapel Hill gave me a second home,” Davis said. “This award is for everyone who believed in me from day one.”
