PROVO, Utah – On Monday night, 7-foot center Xavion Staton of Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, announced his commitment to BYU basketball, making him one of the country’s top recruits in the class of 2025.
According to the industry-recognized 247Sports Composite rankings, Staton chose BYU over his hometown UNLV, Michigan, and Stanford, making him the 29th overall recruit in the 2025 class.
Staton gave BYU an elite rim protector and a prospect who still has his best basketball days ahead of him when he made his official visit to the school this past weekend and declared his commitment to the Cougars.
Staton, the top prospect in Nevada going into his senior season, won Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year at Sierra Vista High in Las Vegas last year.
Staton, who has a Composite Score of 0.9874, is slightly higher than current BYU freshman Kanon Catchings, who had a Composite rating of 0.9846 during the 2024 cycle, making him BYU’s highest-rated recruit in the 247Sports all-time recruit rankings since 2000.
