In a devastating development for the Denver Nuggets and their fans, star center and reigning MVP Nikola Jokić has suffered a complete Achilles tendon tear and will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024–2025 NBA season. The injury reportedly occurred during last night’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns, where Jokić landed awkwardly after a routine play in the second quarter. He was helped off the court and did not return.
Team officials confirmed the diagnosis early this morning following an MRI, which revealed the severity of the injury. The recovery from a full Achilles tear typically takes 9 to 12 months, casting doubt on Jokić’s availability for the start of next season and raising questions about Denver’s immediate championship hopes.
This is a crushing blow for the Nuggets, who were once again strong contenders in the Western Conference with Jokić averaging 26.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. His absence leaves a massive void in both leadership and production for the defending champions.
Head coach Michael Malone addressed the media, stating, “Nikola is the heart of this team — this is a tough moment for all of us. But knowing him, he’ll attack the rehab process with the same determination he brings to the game.”
The Nuggets are expected to explore roster adjustments in the coming days, including potential trades or free agent signings to help bolster their depleted frontcourt.
Denver now faces a challenging road ahead without their superstar, as they attempt to regroup and push forward in what has quickly become an uphill battle.
