Breaking: Ivan Taylor, a 4-star safety commit from Michigan, is expected to transfer to Alabama.
Steve Wiltfong of On3 recently reported that one of Michigan’s highly regarded four-star safety recruits might be moving again.
It is now anticipated that Ivan Taylor, ranked 60th overall in the 2025 recruiting class, will switch his allegiance from the Wolverines to Alabama. Michigan is hurt by this possible flip because the Wolverines had already beaten out Alabama by successfully acquiring Taylor from Notre Dame during the summer. Taylor is ranked as Florida’s seventh safety and ninth prospect by the 247Sports Composite. As of right now, the Wolverines’ second-highest-rated 2025 commit is the Winter Garden (FL) West Orange standout, but barring a change of heart, he seems destined for Tuscaloosa.
The Wolverines’ intended use of Taylor’s skill set was a major factor in his initial decision to commit to Michigan. After his pledge, he spoke candidly about the conversation with the Michigan Insider, saying:
Taylor declared, “I like Coach Moore, Coach Morgan, and Coach Wink.” “I think they’re all wonderful people, and I had a great time meeting them and their families during the official visit.” “I would play the free safety position,” they added. I believe they were the first to announce free safety, and many colleges have been saying nickel. Though the conversation was less heated at the time, Taylor has apparently been leaning towards Alabama for a number of weeks. In anticipation of national signing day, Alabama now seems to be much more interested in adding to its No. 1 2025 recruiting class.
The team’s remaining elite secondary class, which includes highly regarded pledges from Shamari Earls, Jayden Sanders, and Kainoa Winston, provides some solace to Michigan supporters. Michigan has shown that it is committed to acquiring high talent, but it will have to put in a lot of effort to keep all three.
