Brandon Lee Turned Down Role to Play His Father in….
The late Brandon Lee was once given the opportunity to play the late Bruce Lee, the legendary martial arts fighter, in a movie, but the young actor thought it would have been inappropriate.
On Thursday, which would have been Brandon Lee’s 53rd birthday, the son of Bruce Lee talked about why he turned down the lead part in the 1993 smash film Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story in an undated interview that Heat Vision uncovered.
“To be honest, I was a little afraid of the whole situation,” Brandon Lee said. You know, it is weird to play your own father. I had trouble actually understanding it.
Tragically, both men passed away much too young. At the age of 32, Bruce Lee passed away in 1973 due to an allergic reaction. When Brandon Lee was unintentionally shot while filming The Crow in 1993, he passed away at the age of 28.
Rob Cohen’s historical drama Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, which stars Jason Scott Lee (not related) in the lead role, is about the life of Bruce Lee.
Brandon Lee stated that things might have turned out differently if he had been older.
It is amusing because, to be honest, I might have given it more serious thought if it had presented itself later in my career, he said. “However, given how early in my career it is, I feel like this could be the end of my career.”
Brandon Lee stated in the same interview that he declined many offers to be in action films because he wanted to be a legitimate actor and not be limited to a certain role.
