Bold Step:Blue Chip 2025 Quarterback Stone Saunders Commits to Kentucky over Nebraska….
The recruiting process for Kentucky football has transformed quarterback from a weakness into a strength. Stone Saunders committed to Kentucky on Friday night. The Pennsylvania blue-chip quarterback chose the Wildcats over Michigan, Nebraska, Georgia, and Miami.
Stone Saunders is already a successful prep athlete and is a 2025 prospect starting his junior football season. The Harrisburg native has started for Bishop McDevitt, a successful Pennsylvania program, for the past two seasons. The 4A state championship game marked the conclusion of each season. Saunders threw for five touchdowns in a 41-18 victory over Aliquippa last year, exacting revenge for a 2021 defeat.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound quarterback has 3,583 yards and 54 touchdowns in 2022. Saunders has thrown 100 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in two school football seasons. Not too bad. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that aggregates reviews and rankings from all four major recruiting media services, he is the 25th-ranked quarterback, a top-10 recruit in Pennsylvania, and the No. 336 over athlete in the 2025 class.
Shortly after making the move to Lexington, Mark Stoops rode an early wave of momentum in large part thanks to the commitment of Drew Barker. The four-star in-state star passer picked the Cats over Steve Spurrier. That recruiting win never resulted in game-changing production. Since Barker’s season-ending injury in 2015, Kentucky has not had a full-time starting quarterback recruited from the high school ranks.
Kentucky has benefited from the transfer portal, but it is a risky game. Fixing the Wildcats’ high school quarterback recruiting process was one of the major priorities once Liam Coen returned. He completed it nearly instantly.
Cutter Boley was reclassified into the 2024 class after rolling the dice. In January, he will be on campus. With Stone Saunders joining the club, Kentucky has won back-to-back blue chip games in the most crucial position on the pitch.
The timing of Saunders’ choice is even more important. Recruiting has recently been hampered by slow starts. Saunders is the cornerstone of the Cats’ 2025 building block, drawing elite players from across the nation to consider Kentucky.
