Back to back: Mount Notre Dame’s K.K. Bransford repeats as Ms. Ohio Basketball
Mount Notre Dame senior K.K. Bransford has entered elite company before she heads to Notre Dame to continue her basketball career.
On Wednesday, the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association named Bransford Ms. Ohio Basketball for the second consecutive season. Bransford is the sixth player in Ohio high school basketball history to win consecutive Ms. Ohio Basketball awards and the second from Greater Cincinnati.
She joins Kierstan Bell, Canton McKinley (2017-2019), Ameryst Alston, Canton McKinley (2011-2012), Michelle Munoz, Mason (2000-2001), Semeka Randall, Garfield Heights Trinity (1996-1997) and Vonda Ward, Garfield Heights Trinity (1990-1991). Eight Greater Cincinnati high school basketball players have won the state’s top honor.
Bransford helped lead Mount Notre Dame to one of the more dominating four-year runs in Ohio history. The Cougars won Division I state championships in 2019 and 2021 and were undefeated (28-0) heading into the state Final Four in 2020 before the tournament was ultimately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to a pair of Ms. Ohio Basketball Awards, Bransford earned the Ohio Gatorade girls basketball player of the year in 2021 and was the three-time Girls Greater Catholic League player of the year. Bransford finished her prep career with 2,174 points, 723 rebounds, 418 assists and 262 steals. She also ranks ninth in Ohio High School Athletic Association history in free throws made (540). Bransford averaged 21.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game last season.
