Early in November, Young made a commitment to Clemson; however, on December 1, he said that he had changed his mind and switched to Michigan. According to the four major recruiting services—247Sports, ESPN, On3, and Rivals—he is a consensus 4-star safety prospect. According to On3, he is the 99th best player in the county. He is ranked No. 107 by ESPN and No. 223 nationally by Rivals. Young, a four-year varsity player for Monroe, has amassed impressive stats on both sides of the ball. He has 3,286 career all-purpose yards, 25 total touchdowns, and 18 career interceptions and five forced fumbles in addition to his 160 total tackles. Young and Monroe, who is 12-0 overall this season, will play at Shelby on Friday in the fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A West playoffs.
