At Wimbledon, Maria Sharapova makes her debut at Serena…
Although the Wimbledon tournament doesn’t begin until Monday, Maria Sharapova gave the first sharp forehand on Saturday when she scathingly blasted the behavior of top-seeded Serena Williams, one of her main competitors, off the court.
Williams was mentioned in the same story as claiming that a teenage girl in Steubenville, Ohio, who had been raped by two high school football players, “shouldn’t have put herself in that position.” The girl was intoxicated when she was raped by the two football players, who were found guilty. Williams spoke with the girl over the phone and subsequently stated that she hadn’t meant to “say or insinuate that she was at all to blame.”
The third-seeded player at Wimbledon, Sharapova, took offense at both remarks. We have a great deal of respect for what we do on the court at the end of the day. Simply said, I believe that she ought to be discussing her successes rather than anything else that is merely generating controversy and attention,” Sharapova remarked.
If she’d like to discuss anything private, perhaps she might discuss her relationship with her boyfriend—who was previously married, is divorcing, and has children. Don’t bring up other topics when you converse about other topics. I believe that should be the main focus of her life, since she has so many wonderful things in it.
Patrick Mouratoglou, a Frenchman, has been coaching Williams, the clear favorite, for the past 12 months. There have been rumors that they are dating.
This is not finished yet. At her pre-Wimbledon news conference on Sunday, Williams will undoubtedly be questioned about Sharapova’s remarks. Playtime will come as a relief.
