Wilt Chamberlain had a way of demonstrating his superiority over athletes from succeeding generations, particularly centers who, in his opinion, weren’t good enough to fill Bill Russell’s or his own. When it came to criticizing other players and demonstrating his superiority over them, Chamberlain never held back.
But the greatest of all time, Michael Jordan, who stole the show when he entered the league, was his favorite victim. Wilt never missed an opportunity to make fun of Michael Jordan and remind everyone that he had done all he did before, even though he didn’t like all the bouquets MJ received for his performance.
In a previous interview, Wilt asserted that he could have defeated Jordan in his peak and even offered to lay down money to back up his claim (2:36).
Furthermore, he didn’t believe that Jordan, even at his peak, could not have lasted the Chamberlain era because everyone would have tried to bring him down after seeing his spectacular plays.
Wilt never shied away from a conversation, and this time was no different. Although, however, we were never able to witness this combat on the court, he was rather confident in his prospects against His Airness. In his prime years, Chamberlain demonstrated that he was something special. He amassed an unbreakable collection of records and dominated the game unlike anybody else.
He repeatedly made disparaging remarks about Jordan, saying that he wouldn’t show MJ any mercy. However, father time had other ideas for these two, and the association never saw Chamberlain and Jordan engage in combat.
