Angel Reese Celebrates and Responds to Critics…
Angel Reese wants those who questioned her to know something.
The 22-year-old former LSU standout, who was selected by the Chicago Sky of the WNBA with the seventh overall pick in April, posted graduation pictures and a harsh message on X, a platform that was once known as Twitter.
“So what happens next? What was expressed? Oh, that’s what I thought, too,” Reese wrote on Saturday, May 18. “I graduated from Louisiana State University in four years exactly on schedule. I assumed that someone who wasn’t a college graduate said sum.”
In her biography on USA Basketball, Reese states that she studied in communication at LSU. After her daughter graduated from college, Reese’s mother, Angel Webb Reese, also posted a message for the doubters on social media. The Chicago Sky guard sent her mother’s message to Instagram Stories over the weekend, despite the fact that her X account is private.
Angel Webb posted, “For the most part I think I do a good job in ignoring the naysayers when it comes to my children so y’all can keep listening to those folks who do to even know what GPA even stands for let alone have not sniffed a GPA since high school.”
In order to “set an example in that regard” for the WNBA player and her brother, Julian Reese, Webb informed her followers that she and Angel’s father, Michael Reese, had obtained college degrees. She wrote, “Now you can find something else to talk about,” as a conclusion to her statement. Meanwhile, we are honoring yet another success.”
The basketball player and her mother might have been subtly criticizing Kia Brooks, the mother of Flau’jae Johnson, a former teammate, who had a previous internet battle with Reese’s mother.
Webb’s criticism of Johnson’s grammar on social media sparked the feud, according to Outkick. According to the site, Brooks responded to Webb on Instagram. “You must take responsibility for your own and your daughter’s actions and stop being petty, fake, and hateful. You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter received a 2.0 or lower grade point average,” the statement continued.
Reese talked to PEOPLE on her ascent to fame after leading LSU to the national title in 2023 and sharing that she was “overwhelmed” by “so many” eyes on her. Nevertheless, the basketball player expressed her gratitude for the chance to serve as an inspiration to younger Black females. Honestly, it’s a blessing. I’ve accepted it in a way. I have people watching me,” she remarked.
