The Provogue/Mascot Label Group will release Robin Trower’s searing new album “Joyful Sky” on October 27. The album features Sari Schorr’s raw vocal power. A lyric video for the first single “Burn” has been published in celebration of this announcement, giving fans a sneak peek at what is to come. The 78-year-old Trower is always open to singers who can enhance his expressive guitar style, but something about the smokey strength of the celebrated New Yorker Sari Schorr made him want to completely dismantle and rebuild his songwriting around her.

“I’ve worked with some great vocalists over the years but Sari is dynamite, just an absolute knockout,” reflects Trower. “This album really pushed me, made me write in different keys and arrange songs for her voice. I went more down the R&B route this time, because I knew she’d be great with that flavour. But the blues still underpins everything I do — and there’s definitely elements from my ’70s stuff in this new album.”

Any student of rock ‘n’ roll has to listen to the best tracks from Trower’s discography. Do not wager against “Joyful Sky”‘s highlights becoming part of the canon. Regarding the smoldering opening track, “Burn,” he states, “is about someone who is trying to calm down their lover.” This builds up the pulsating and slightly Bond-like beat of “I will Be Moving On.” According to the guitarist, “that one gets me exactly where I live,” “It has a mood to it and is soulful.”

Robin Trower’s career has been a silent act of defiance for sixty years. If you go back in time to the British guitarist’s past, you will see that he has always taken risks rather than choosing the easiest route.
