According to Roger Federer, he is ready and eager to surpass…
Roger Federer said of himself before the Australian Open, “I am aware that at 38 I should not be the favourite.”
The “Big Three” are back in the running for another Grand Slam title, with Rafael Nadal displaying no indications of injury or problems with his game and Novak Djokovic appearing in excellent form after leading Serbia to victory at the first ATP Cup.
Federer, the 20-time major winner, has stated that he is pleased with his training at home in Switzerland, despite not having played any competitive matches since November.
Federer remarked at a Melbourne promotional event, “It is important that I did not suffer any setbacks throughout my long and intense off-season training.”
“I asked myself last week, ‘Am I happy to go to Australia? Should I just remain here and cease packing right away? since I am able to.
“I was like, ‘No, no, I am very glad to travel to Melbourne and kick off the season there,’ even though I could have easily stayed home.
“I have maintained my fitness, of course thanks to having a fantastic team around me.”
Six-time Melbourne Park champion Roger Federer lost to Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2018, however he did win the tournament in 2017 and 2018.
However, the world No. 3 acknowledges that it will be difficult to win a major championship away from Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal because they have shared the last 12 Grand Slam victories among them.
Federer remarked, “I know that at 38, I should not be the favorite; it should be someone who is presumably in their 20s, but the three of us have managed to remain the favorites, which is fantastic for us.”
