According to Daniil Medvedev, his wife and he are not as close with…
Daniil Medvedev is a big believer in taking the long view. Additionally, it is evident that the Russian has a long memory after his thrilling five-set victory over Alexander Zverev on Friday in Melbourne.
What other reaction could one have after defeating his bitter adversary 5-7 3-6 7-6(4) 7-6(5) 6-3 in 4 hours and 18 minutes at Rod Laver Arena to secure a berth against Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final?
The 2021 US Open winner, in allusion to a past dispute involving Zverev, put his finger to his lips, looked to his box, and appeared to mouth the word “karma” when the German missed with a forehand.
However, it is possible that he meant “calmer,” as making the conscious choice to try to develop a more balanced temperament during the off-season is paying dividends.
But getting back to “karma,” Zverev is seen on camera uttering the term after witnessing Medvedev fall in the opening round at Roland Garros in an episode of the Netflix series Break Point that centers on Zverev’s tennis return.
Olya Sharypova, one of the two women who have accused Zverev of abuse, is acquainted with Medvedev’s wife Daria, and there is no love lost between the two semi-finalists.
At least not until early on Saturday morning, when Medvedev chose diplomacy instead of
rather than stirring up controversy by asserting that his remarks had to do with his support group.
“I attempted to avoid using Twitter, but when I did, I noticed it everywhere. I thought, ‘Oh my God,'” he remarked.
