Variety has verified that Stana Katic will not be returning to ABC’s long-running procedural “Castle” in the event that the show moves forward with a ninth season. Tamala Jones, a co-star, will also be leaving. ABC and ABC Studios made the decision to do this.

The amount of episodes for the ninth season of “Castle” has not yet been decided upon by ABC.
During its eighth season, “Castle” saw a decline in viewership; however, in recent weeks, the show is ratings have steadied, making it appear more favorable than some other ABC dramas. The Monday drama is averaging 1.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.1 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen’s “live plus-3” projections.
Last season, the long-running series had a shift of showrunners when series creator Andrew Marlowe stepped down and was replaced by Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley.
