Congratulations:Nick Saban has been recognized as The Best All-Time Coach In Alabama Football History, receiving a prestigious award….
The University of Alabama has been blessed to have had some of the greatest coaches in the history of college football. Wallace Wade and Frank Thomas were two of the early ones who set the standard by winning National Championships in the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
The one who is largely recognized as the best of all time at the school is Paul “Bear” Bryant, who revived a morbid program and won six National Championships in 25 years. Were it not for Notre Dame (twice in the polls and twice in the field) he would have won 10. But there is a new King at the Capstone and he is Nick Saban.
The fact that Saban has tied Bryant with six championships while leading the Tide is not the only reason. His teams’ unmatched performance is the reason behind this. Even the Bear experienced a “dive,” with three straight lackluster seasons (8-3-1, 6-5, and 6-5-1) in between two stellar periods.
There has been no decline for Saban. And that is what finally sets him apart from Bryant. After winning one title, Saban goes on to win another. or at least is in the running for one. After his debut season at Bama, he had just two losses in his worst years. He receives a top-ranked recruiting class and then another top-ranked recruiting class.
He loses players — a projected six first-rounders this year – to the NFL Draft, many of them underclassmen. This year, he loses coaches Steve Sarkisian and Butch Jones to other institutions, yet he still wins. This is among his greatest accomplishments. It is somewhat of an Alabama tradition that Bryant lost a lot of coaches and continued to win.
Thus, the amicable dispute should come to an end. The greatest coach in Alabama football history is Nick Saban. He is, however, also the best college football coach in history.
