“A New Era Begins:BYU football has hired a new general manager. Here’s who it is and what the role will entail
Since players can now be compensated for their name, image, and likeness, college football is changing quickly. As a result, many teams have established a “general manager” position to help oversee operations in that department.
Dave George, a lawyer and former BYU rugby player who most recently practiced sports and entertainment law in St. Louis, was appointed to fill the role, the BYU Cougars football team said on
“I am thrilled to have Dave join BYU in this new role as our general manager,” stated Kalani Sitake, head football coach at BYU, in a statement. As a lawyer who works in sports law and has extensive contacts with the NCAA, he has a thorough awareness of the current situation in college football and is very optimistic about its future.
“He is highly intelligent and has a skill set that will be very beneficial to the players in our program as we move forward in the development of BYU football. He will play an important role on the financial side of our roster management to both educate and protect our players and maximize their opportunities.”
After graduating from BYU in 2017, George attended UNLV for law school, where he eventually earned his degree in 2020. He worked for the Honorable Johnnie B. Rawlinson as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Las Vegas before moving to St. Louis.
