New Jersey’s East Rutherford Nate Solder is making a comeback to the Giants and the NFL after missing a season. Solder will return to the Giants’ offensive line after signing a new contract, the organization announced Wednesday.
Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, 32-year-old Solder chose not to play in the 2020 NFL season. He has survived testicular cancer, and since he was a baby, his five-year-old son Hudson has been receiving therapy for kidney cancer. Furthermore, Solder and his spouse, Lexi, welcomed a kid, Emerson, last spring.
On March 16, 2018, Solder became a free agent and joined the Giants, where he started 32 straight games at left tackle. In his second season, he missed just 57 of 2,037 offensive snaps. The 2019 season
Andrew Thomas, the Giants’ 2020 first-round pick, filled in for him as a left tackle during his absence last season, making 15 starts and playing in every game. Cam Fleming, a free agent, started every one of the 16 games as right tackle. Matt Peart, a third-round pick the previous season, is a promising second-year player who might fill that role. When Solder was a rookie with New England in 2011, he started 13 games, including two in the postseason, and was the final player to play on
During his first seven NFL seasons, Solder was a member of the Patriots, who won two of their four Super Bowls. Solder has started all 16 of his postseason games and 127 of his 130 regular-season games. In 2017 with New England and 2019 with the Giants, Solder was nominated twice for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
*The Giants officially announced the signing of defensive lineman Austin Johnson, long snapper Casey Kreiter, and wide receiver C.J. Board in addition to Solder. Board made four starts and participated in 14 games during his rookie campaign with the Giants in 2019. He had a long reception of 16 yards and caught 11 passes for 101 yards. Board suffered a concussion and missed two games.
