SAD NEWS: Following a scuffle between rookies during practice, Lions’ Dan Campbell became ‘heated up’.
Tuesday’s altercation at the Detroit Lions’ practice infuriated new head coach Dan Campbell. During a special teams practice, cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu and Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown got into a heated argument. St. Brown was selected in the fourth round of the draft, and Melifonwu was selected in the third.
Former NFL tight end Campbell told reporters he was a little excited about the battle. Yes, I was really worked up. Man, since they were in competition. It was encouraging to watch the two young men pursue their goals,” Campbell told reporters on Wednesday, according to MLive.com.
“They were, uh — look, we had a pretty good idea of Amon-Ra, you know? The Sun God? What he is capable of? His aggressiveness shows up — it would show up on tape — in college. Look, this guy will mix it up. And there are things you see with Iffy in school, but I did not quite know. And to know he is got, ‘Hey man, I am not your punching bag,’ that really did encourage me.”
In exchange for defensive lineman Michael Brockers and Jared Goff, the team traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams. Breshad Perriman was added to the wide receiving corps, and Penei Sewell was selected in the first round to strengthen the offensive line.
