Louisville Football Secures a Super SEC Major Commitment From Four-Star Antonio Watts Choosing Cardinals Over Kent State….
This weekend, athletes from all over the nation traveled to Louisville to see the men’s basketball game versus Duke, marking a significant recruitment weekend for the Louisville football program. Antonio Watts was one of several 2022 defensive backs invited by the staff to make official visits. Shortly after Wesley McGriff joined the team, Watts, a safety prospect from Georgia’s Carver High School, became a target. He has had offers from Kent State, East Carolina, Syracuse, and other schools.
Watts is a safety prospect with great size and cover ability. He played safety and cornerback in high school and he has exceptional ball skills. He accomplishes almost everything at a fairly good level, even though he does not impress you in the other rating categories.
He tackles both in run support and in space. Although he is not at his best in covering, he can match up adequately. He plays the deep middle of the field, and I enjoy how he responds to his surroundings and the ball in the air. Although he does not seem very fast, I believe he is quick enough to play safety.
Louisville is currently completing the 2022 class by adding quality to the roster and filling vacancies with a few high school players and further transfers. I will be honest and say that I did not think Watts would commit to UofL, but my calculations about their scholarship numbers probably do not add up because scholarship math is impossible. After losing several players to transfers in recent years, Watts will assist in resolving the team’s safety numbers problem.
