Good News:Five-star Grace Mbugua Announce commits to Louisville cardinals after several seasons
Grace Mbugua, an in-state forward from Danville Christian Academy, committed to the Louisville women’s basketball team Tuesday night, making her the team’s first Class of 2025 recruit. She had committed to Liberty in the spring, but after considering Kentucky, Baylor, Duke, Florida, LSU, NC State, and West Virginia, she ultimately decided on the Cardinals.
Head coach Jeff Walz said, “We are excited to announce the signing of Grace “Baby” Mbugua of Danville Christian. She is a fantastic player who brings a variety of skills and a strong work ethic to the court. At 6-5, she can play a variety of positions and cause matchup issues for her opponents. She can attack off the bounce or step behind the 3-point line to show off her shooting ability. On defense, she alters shots and is a formidable inside presence with her pursuit of rebounds and putbacks.
Over the past year, Mbugua, a 6-5 forward, has risen in the recruiting ranks. The website 247Sports.com rates her as a four-star talent. In addition to being the third-ranked player from the state of Kentucky, she is ranked 78th overall and 17th among power forwards nationwide.
“She will undoubtedly have an instant impact on our squad due to her remarkable work ethic and her commitment to talent improvement,” Walz said. “Baby is likely one of the best players to have come out of our state, therefore our staff worked really hard to recruit and secure her. Her devotion, vigor, and excitement about staying in the bluegrass will be adored by Card fans.
Mbugua led Danville Christian to a 29-3 overall record and the 12th Region title in her junior year, averaging 25.7 points, fifth in the state, 15.4 rebounds, second in the state, and 6.6 blocks per game. She finished with 34 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks in the state tournament.
On Thursday, November 21, the Louisville Cardinals of 2024–25 will return to action at the KFC Yum Center when they take on Morehead State. The ACC Network Extra will stream the Cardinals vs. Eagles game, which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
