Urgent:David Gilmour Rushed to the hospital in a critical condition
Famous Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour’s record-breaking charity guitar auction has made headlines. Gilmour sold 123 of his renowned and valuable guitars through Christie’s sale House in New York, setting a record for the greatest guitar collection sold at a charity sale and drawing offers from 2,000 bidders from 66 nations.
Naturally, the collection brought in a lot of money; it sold for $21,198,250 (£16,624,700; €18,642,100) including buyer’s premium, setting a record for the most expensive guitar collection ever sold at a charity auction.
Gilmour’s most famous guitar, “The Black Strat,” a black Fender Stratocaster, was one of the items in the collection. The instrument played a key role in the composition of the music for various Pink Floyd albums, including Animals (1977), Wish You Were Here (1975), The Wall (1979), and The Dark Side of the Moon (1973).
Naturally, the most sought-after item was this guitar, which is nearly as well-known as the rock star himself. After numerous bids, it went for $3,975,000 (£3,154,670; €3,545,800) including buyer’s premium, setting a record for the most expensive guitar ever sold at a charity auction. This represents a fifth of the sale price of the entire collection.
Gilmour referred to the sale as “brilliant and extraordinary” as eager bidders waited around the block to enter the auction house, forcing an hour-long delay.
Gilmour donated all of the profits from the auction to ClientEarth, a charity made up of lawyers and environmental experts that use the law to combat climate change.
