Shocking:Georgia’s SEC Rival Tried to Land Carson Beck Before QB Committed to Miami
One of college football’s more unexpected announcements is that Carson Beck, a former quarterback for Georgia, will play for the Miami Hurricanes in 2025.
The Hurricanes were not the only college program interested in having Beck under center in 2025, but after declaring for the 2025 NFL draft in December, Beck chose to use the transfer portal and committed to Miami on January 10 for his last year of collegiate eligibility.
According to sources cited by USA Today Network’s Matt Hayes on Wednesday, Georgia wants Beck back for the 2025 campaign, and rival Alabama was supporting the Bulldogs in that quest.
Beck became the full-time quarterback starter in 2023 after spending the previous five years at Georgia.During his time in Athens, Georgia, he made 39 appearances and threw for 7,912 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions.Despite being 24–4 in the previous two seasons, Georgia lost to Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinals in 2024 and was denied a spot in the 2023 College Football Playoffs.
Before inconsistent play hurt his draft stock going into the 2024 season, Beck was a first-round pick. He will now move to South Beach and replace Cam Ward, who transferred to Miami in 2024 after starting for Washington State for two years. Ward is expected to be the first or second quarterback off the draft board after a stellar season in which he finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting and threw for a career-high 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns.
