Shock:Former Alabama QB gives the Tennessee Vols its first big dose of rat poison ahead of 2024 season
The national media has not done much to promote the Tennessee Vols during the summer. Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri, and Alabama have received the majority of that attention.
But with only a few weeks until the 2024 season begins, it appears that the Vols’ hype machine is beginning to pick up steam.
Greg McElroy, presenter of Always College Football and a former quarterback for Alabama, stated this week that if redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava can play “at the top of the sport at his position,” he believes Tennessee will have a decent chance of winning the national championship.
McElroy stated, “I believe that if he (Nico) is a Heisman finalist, then not only is Tennessee in the playoffs, but Tennessee is a real contender for the national championship.” “They did a fantastic job of opening up routes in the run game, and this offense—they learned how to get by last year. And with his own legs, Nico is a pretty effective weapon.
Therefore, I believe Tennessee will have a strong chance to win the National Championship if Nico can perform at the highest level of the sport in his position. For a player who has only played one game, that will be a lot to ask, but stranger things have happened, especially when the ceiling is that high. I would not be surprised if Nico lives up to the hype.
“Tennessee will have a strong chance to win the National Championship if Nico can perform at the highest level of the sport at his position.” If Nico Iamaleava is among the best quarterbacks in the country, the possibilities are endless for the #Vols 👀.
Nick Saban, the former head coach of Alabama, will be the first to tell you that McElroy, who was a player under Saban, is giving the Vols some rat poison.
Particularly early in the season, Saban notably hated it when the media praised the Crimson Tide, implying that his players were poisoned by the positive coverage.
Regarding McElroy’s remarks regarding Tennessee, he is undoubtedly correct in stating that the Vols will most likely be serious candidates for the national championship if Iamaleava performs at a Heisman level.
