In a heartbreaking turn of events, Brenda Blethyn’s last moments from the adored ITV series Vera were aired. After fourteen years on our screens, the detective drama came to an end when Brenda confirmed last year that she was leaving the role.
Only two episodes made up the final season, which ended with this finale episode of “The Dark Wives.”
The episode featured flashbacks that gave viewers insight into Vera’s difficult upbringing with her alcoholic father Hector after her mother passed away, forcing Vera to take on the role of caretaker from an early age, according to the Mirror.
In the meantime, Vera took on a difficult case in her professional role when the body of a bright student was found at the foot of The Dark Wives, a local monument. The victim had suffered an attack and been abandoned far from home; Vera tried to solve the puzzle of what had happened.
Vera bravely stopped the murder of a young girl named Chloe in her last minutes on screen, admitting that she recognized aspects of her own experience in the child. She gave Chloe some wise counsel, saying, “Life’s just one scary decision after another,” before recommending that the group celebrate their accomplishment by going out for drinks.
Brenda Blethyn, star of Vera, has spoken candidly about her emotional exit from the adored ITV show, saying she decided to move aside to give others the opportunity to shine.
