6-3, 200-pound Williams chose Texas over Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon and Southern Cal in a hotly
Fans of the Texas Longhorns have been eagerly awaiting a five-star moment in the recruiting class of 2025. Now that the wait is over, Longhorn Nation can rejoice. Just moments ago, Jonah Williams, a safety/linebacker and the 20th-ranked recruit in the country, declared his commitment to the Texas Longhorns. In the 2025 recruiting cycle, Williams becomes Texas’ first five-star pledge.
In a very competitive recruiting that had everyone in suspense right up to the very end, the 6-3, 200-pound Williams selected Texas over Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon, and Southern Cal.
Throughout his recruitment process, analysts identified Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oregon, and LSU as the top colleges to beat for Williams’ pledge. Williams consistently refuted allegations of a purported new leader and insisted that he was keeping an open mind. When Williams traveled to Austin in late July to pay Texas an unofficial visit, Texas really started to take off. The Longhorns were always lingering in their chase of the Galveston Ball standout. Following that visit, Williams told Orangebloods.com that Texas kept gaining ground in the weeks before his declaration and that the Longhorns were among his top three picks.
When coach Choate left, Blake Gideon said, “I am going to try to keep you in my room as long as possible,” in response to their initial attempt to switch me to linebacker, Williams told Orangebloods in the spring. “Coach Gideon is an excellent educator. He seems capable of motivating me to reach new heights.
Williams contributes to Texas’ ongoing momentum as the Longhorns’ 18th pledge in the 2025 recruiting class. The 5-star Williams, Rivals100 wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, and Rivals250 offensive lineman Nick Brooks have all pledged to Texas thus far in July. Next Friday, when wide receiver Jaime Ffrench makes his college decision, Texas hopes to sign another 5-star prospect.
