With this, Westbrook surpasses Wilt’s 51-year record.
With his play over the past several seasons, Russell Westbrook has been shattering records left and right. Last night, he broke a 51-year-old record set by none other than the legendary Wilt Chamberlain.
The Oklahoma City Thunder won their 11th game in a row last night, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 116-107. The star of the show, though, was Russell Westbrook, who broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record for the most consecutive games with a triple-double after 51 years with his 10th consecutive triple-double of 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Just one more of Westbrook’s numerous triple-double records, but it is particularly remarkable when a player in the current era of basketball breaks Wilt’s records. In addition, he is on track to set a record by averaging a triple-double for the third straight season.
They recorded the first teammate triple-double in Thunder history and the eighth in NBA history with Paul George, one of his teammates, having a monster game as well, finishing with 47 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.
This team is dominating the NBA after a sluggish start to the season with four losses. Paul George is performing like a real MVP contender, and Westbrook is averaging a triple-double next to him.
They are presently 36-19 and comfortably occupying the third spot, just one game behind the Denver Nuggets, thanks to their supporting group. They pose a serious threat to the Warriors in the Western Conference playoffs if they keep up this level of play.
