The renowned singer and actress Doris Day passes away.
Doris Day, a legendary Hollywood actress and singer who rose to fame via her songs and films, has passed away. She was ninety-seven years old. She passed away on Monday at her Carmel Valley, California, home, according to a statement from the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
The singer, who later became an actor, had a big song in 1956 with Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be). She appeared in movies including Pillow Talk and Calamity Jane.
Throughout the 1950s and 60s, one of the major box office draws was her on-screen pairing with Rock Hudson. “She had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia,” the statement reads.
Day, who was born Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff in April 1922, had to give up her dream of becoming a dancer after suffering a broken right leg in an automobile accident. Rather, she started singing when she was fifteen years old. Sentimental Journey, her debut single, would go on to become a classic.
