According to provincial authorities, former One Direction member Liam Payne passed away after falling from his hotel room’s third story in Argentina.
The individual was acting strangely and possibly intoxicated on Wednesday night when emergency services were contacted, according to Alberto Crescenti, head of SAME, Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services, who spoke with ABC News.
According to Crescenti, Payne’s body was discovered in the hotel’s inner courtyard, and he was pronounced dead there.
Payne fell 13 to 14 meters, or roughly 42 to 45 feet, according to Crescenti, who also described Payne’s injuries as “extremely critical” and “incompatible with life” to the local Argentine media outlet TN.
Seven minutes after receiving the emergency services call, at 5:11 p.m. local time, Crescenti noted, emergency services personnel arrived on the site. The man’s identity was only found out after he was pronounced dead, and Crescenti informed the outlet that there was no chance of trying to save him.
Payne first became a member of One Direction in 2010 when the group was formed, having previously appeared on “X Factor.” Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson were also members of the group.
Following the band’s 2015 announcement of a hiatus, Payne started a solo career, releasing the album “LP1” in 2019 along with the song “Strip That Down” in 2017.
Payne admitted on “GMA” that he does “miss being with the fellas” even after One Direction broke up.
