Breaking: In a candid interview, Bjorn Borg lauds Alexander Zverev’s development and future potential….
At the US Open, Alexander Zverev prevailed over a very difficult Darian King 7-6(11-9) 7-5 6-4 after fighting until the early hours of Tuesday.
In the opening set, the 25-year-old player from Barbados, who qualified for the Grand Slam by beating out of qualifying, gave the fourth-seeded German everything he could handle.
Wearing knee-high socks and a striped cap reminiscent of Bjorn Borg from the 1970s, Zverev appeared unbalanced early in the match, his trademark powerful serve that has helped him win five titles this year without its typical force.
“I could not find my rhythm, obviously, because Darian came out playing really good tennis,” he remarked on the court following his overhead smash victory to end the nearly three-hour encounter.
“The first set was rather entertaining.”
Borna Coric of Croatia, a 20-year-old, will face Zverev next.
