“Confirmed: Alexander Zverev’s Contract Contains a MYSTERIOUS Clause You Must See!”
Alexander Zverev, the third-ranked player in men’s tennis, was disqualified from the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, Mexico, following his doubles match due to “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
After losing his doubles match with Marcelo Melo, a tennis player from Brazil, Zverev, a German, came dangerously near to hitting umpire Alessandro Germani.
The British-Finn duo of Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara defeated him 6-2, 4-6, (10-6) and he proceeded to repeatedly attack the umpire’s chair with his racket.
After hitting the umpire’s chair three times, Zverev sat down and then stood back up, screaming that the official had “destroyed the whole f***ing match” and hitting the chair with his racket once more while the umpire was getting down.
Match point was set up by Zverev, who had been given a code violation minutes earlier for cursing and yelling in protest of a shot that was given.
Glasspool then put an ace past Zverev to end the match. Zverev was eliminated from the competition in which he was the defending champion after the men’s tour failed to find him appealing.
“Alexander Zverev has been pulled from the event in Acapulco due to unsportsmanlike conduct at the conclusion of his doubles match on Tuesday night,” the ATP stated in a statement.
Zverev expressed regret for his actions and expressed sorry for the event.
