Danse Macabre, the 16th studio album by Duran Duran, features…
Wearing perfectly fitted pastel Antony Price suits, Duran Duran made his big debut on MTV in the classic and aspirational “Rio” video. The video featured him riding a leased yacht, drinking frothy neon drinks, and having fun in the sun with glamor ladies who painted nails. However, the camera-friendly quintet made a completely different trip to the dark side in “Night Boat,” which was shot on the same frenetic tour as they shot that vibrant Caribbean commercial with filmmaker Russell Mulcahy.
“Despite being shot in the same location—Antigua—it had a very different vibe from “Rio.” We produced the “Rio” film during the day and the “Night Boat” video at night. Russell believed that “Night Boat” would make a better horror story or short film, according to Roger Taylor, the drummer for Duran Duran, who spoke to Yahoo Entertainment. In the “Night Boat” music video, which paid homage to the Italian cult horror film Zombi 2, frontman Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran menacingly recited Shakespeare on a desolate island, while warpainted zombies cornered and touched Andy Taylor, the original Duran guitarist, and Roger in a dilapidated seaside cabin.
