In order to take care of his wife and band matters, Steve Morse officially leaves Deep Purple.
Guitarist Steve Morse has formally quit Deep Purple after 28 years of service in order to care for his wife Janine, who has stage 4 cancer. In a long, heartfelt statement, his bandmates offered their support and he sent a message to the fans.
The 1994 recruit to Deep Purple, Morse, announced in late March that he would not be performing with the group going forward. He was replaced as guitarist by Simon McBride (Sweet Savage, The Don Airey Band, Snakecharmer).
“Steve is unable to commit to the band’s schedule for the remainder of 2022 and beyond due to his personal circumstances. Part of the statement the seasoned rock group posted on Facebook says, “A few months ago, Steve publicly shared with the band’s fans the terrible reality that his wife, Janine, is facing cancer and, in his own words, ‘I just must be there with her.” “Band, crew, management, record label, and all those that had the pleasure of working with him over the years will dearly miss Steve,” Deep Purple go on.
Despite playing on seven original studio albums and the most recent collection of covers, Turning to Crime, Morse is still optimistic and thankful for the decades he spent with Deep Purple both on stage and in the studio. Morse observes, “As Janine grows accustomed to her limits, she is capable of doing a lot on her own. So, we are going to try to do some shorter local concert tours with friends in the hopes of getting both of us out of the house!”
